Good Morning, Quilters!

My daughters, Faye and Olivia are mirror-image identical twins.  One is right handed, the other left handed.  (Read more HERE)

Today, we are going to use mirror-imaging to turn a simple quilting pattern into gorgeous Scrollwork!

Mirror Image Twins

THE SCROLLWORK MACHINE QUILTING TUTORIAL

Begin by drawing three vertical parallel lines, equidistant apart.

Begin stitching on the middle line.

Stitch on the line a few stitches and wave to the right line.  Stitch on the right line a few stitches.Lori Kennedy, Machine Quilting, Scrollwork, Tutorial

Taper down a few stitches and echo stitch back to the center line.

Stitch a right spiral and stop.

As you spiral out, sweep the center line and begin the next motif in the pattern-stitch to the right line.

Continue by stitching the right side of the entire border, then knot off.

STITCH THE MIRROR IMAGE–Left Side.

Begin stitching on the center line.

Wave to the left line and stitch on the left line several stitches.  Taper down and echo stitch to the center line.

Lovely!

Twice as lovely!

Faye and Olivia, Mirror image Identical twins

You may find that one side looks different than the other–it is difficult to create perfect mirror image spirals.  Don’t fret–the asymmetry gives the design more interest and character–just like Faye and Olivia have different personalities…

IMHO— life (and quilting) are more interesting that way!

As always-DOODLE FIRST!

Happy Stitching,

Lori-iroL
