The Race Car-A Free Motion Quilt Tutorial

Machine Quilting, Lori KennedyGood Morning, Quilters!

Did anyone have time to try The Building Blocks tutorial from yesterday?

I used it to complete a small sample I had on hand.

This small quilt includes:

The Race Car

Grid Pop

The Jigsaw Puzzle

What motifs will YOU combine?

I can’t wait to see what YOU create!

Racing around,

Lori

  • thank you Lori, the two I read were very informative. Look forward to them in the future. Mary

  • Hi Lori, this is not about stars however looking through some back tutorials I came across two about correcting tension. It seemed as though there were others but I don’t know how to find them. Do you have them together under a heading I would like to read more. Thank you

Hi Mary. I don’t think I ever finished the series on tension. Sometimes these topics get away from me. I will try to write more on tension this month.

I love this little quilt. When you break things down as you do it becomes so much easier to do. I must put your little car on a few of my quilts. Thank you again

  • I love this little quilt, it’s so awesome. I must get over my fears and try something like this, maybe even smaller. Thank you so much for a wonderful blog. 🙂

So glad you like it! Jump into FMQ–it’s so much fun, once you get over the initial fear!

So adorable. Love what you did with this one.

  • Yes Lori, I tried it I wrote my name in block letters, one letter per block , did some swirls starting from different corners and attempted the stars, they are in great need of improvement. I did a 6 X 7 grid of 1/12″ squares and have 10 empty squares which I might fill with other motif or motifs. I Framed the blocks with the loopy border as on the sea side tutorial of a week or so ago.
Thanks it was good to do.

    Lori – I love what you do – I haven’t done this exercise but I will !!! 🙂

I am first doodling it! I need practice to get the ideas into my head. I like that you show us your completed work. It’s beautiful but shows that all things don’t have to be symmetrical or the same. I like that. Back to doodling!
