Quilted Feathers-A Twist!

February 12, 2020
Good Morning, Quilters!

Today I bring you Quilted Feathers! Not exactly what you think of when you hear “quilted feathers”!

Duplicate Emails

Before we look at feathers, I need to address the ongoing problem with duplicate emails.

I am aware of the problem, and I will again ask for your patience.  Please do a quick “delete” of one of the emails and then proceed to LKQ.  My daughters are working on this for me as it has not been an easy fix.  Technology-we love it, until it messes with us!

BERNINA We All Sew Tutorials

Yesterday’s tutorial for Scalloped Hearts was sponsored by BERNINA and I provided a link to the tutorial.  You do NOT need to own a BERNINA to use the link or to follow their tutorials.  All are welcome and most of the tutorials are not brand specific.

I highly recommend the BERNINA We All Sew site for excellent information and tutorials on a wide variety of sewing topics.  This week my “Beginner Sewing Club” (more on that later) used the  Speedy Pillowcase Tutorial to whip up several pillowcases!

Quilted Feathers

I LOVE feathers!  And I LOVE whole cloth quilts.  Quilted Feathers as a whole cloth quilt is a winning combination!

I’ve quilted feathers before. but this time I added more detail and more motifs to fill the sections.

To make the feathers, I created a quilt sandwich with lightweight Warm and Natural cotton batting.  Next, I lightly sketched a feather shape.

Then I  outlined  stitched the feather and  filled in each section with a variety of motifs.

Finally, I stitched the outline several times and  cut out the shape.

For this quilt, I decided to fill in the background instead of cutting out the feathers.

I outlined the feather in black before stitching the background to give the feather more definition.

Quilted Feathers

I love to quilt small projects like this when I only have a few minutes in my sewing room.  They are quick to make-but do require careful, slow stitching.

What about YOU?

Do YOU ever create small quilted projects?

Have YOU ever framed a quilt?

What’s your favorite motif?

We’d LOVE to hear

Yours,

Loony-Lark-Lapwing-Lori
