New Ulm, New Friends and The Spring Sampler

April 22, 2015

FMQ, Spring Sampler, LKennedyGood Morning, Quilters and Doodlers!

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to present a workshop and lecture to The Prairie Piecemakers of New Ulm, Minnesota.  What a talented and fun group of ladies!

FMQ, Spring Sampler, LKennedyAs you can see, we had a lot of fun…

But we also got a lot of work done.

FMQ, Spring Sampler, LKennedyIt was great to see the different interpretations of The Spring Sampler with a variety of fabrics and threads.

The Prairie Piecemakers are a very busy guild with challenges, charity quilts, group projects and a BIG show every two years.  Their “Show and Tell” quilts were truly amazing-a wide variety of piecing and appliqué.

FMQ, Spring Sampler, LKennedyI left New Ulm inspired.  I hope the ladies of New Ulm will be doing more free motion quilting…

I know I’ll be doing more piecing and  appliqué!

Thank you, New Ulm!  It was a lot of fun!

  • Really off putting when you are struggling like me, its like a mountain to climb, mind is so willing but the fingers are not quite up to the mind!

There is a movie called “New in Town” it features Rene Zelweiger, she goes to the town of New Ulm, Mn. It is such a cute show. So I was surprised to see that there really was a town by that name…lol, love that movie, watch it if you get a chance, you will love it too! P.S. They even make a quilt for ” Lucy”, ( Rene) in the movie…

  • I love hearing about the quilting activities in my home state! Thanks for another piece of inspiration! 😉

I recently purchased a Janome Horizon 8900 with the intention of learning new ways to complete my quilting projects and fabric art. I set myself the goal of an hour each morning to practice. What an absolute delight that I found this great block to guide me

  • Great ideas as always. I’m doing a workshop in Winona this Saturday (LQS). The interest in FMQ recently is huge and I’m thrilled to share this wonderful art form. Great post!

  • These are great. Thanks for sharing.

  • Do you do workshops in NY? Can you send me your e-mail?
    Thanks

  • This is such a neat idea!! Years ago I took an MQX class with Sally Terry and we made sandwiched squares 30×30, similar to these. My friend kept all hers and assembled them into a quilt which she tacked to her basement ceiling above her longarm. So neat!! I make smaller ones and use them to “warm up” before starting my quilting on my HQSweet16. Your tutorials are fabulous, you make every design easily possible. Love your website!

I love the way you had them divide their sample cloth! Another idea for me.
