FREE Quilt Block from The Splendid Sampler 2

My grandmother, Rose and my mother, Dorothy loved to quilt, garden, and cook – and they passed that love on to me. (Or at least love for one of those things…. HA!)

Consequently, when Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson  asked me to design a block for the Splendid Sampler 2,  my inspiration was clear – my mother and grandmother! The Rose & Dot block is one of 100 blocks included in the Splendid Sampler 2 book. In addition, it is included in the twenty FREE  blocks from The Splendid Sampler 2 offered online!

Download the pattern, then check out my tips for stitching the Rose & Dot quilt block HERE.

A Very Special Mother’s Day!

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers!

What about YOU?

Have you started a Splendid Sampler quilt??

Did YOU make a Rose & Dot block?

What colors did YOU use?

Any baby quilts in YOUR future?

Wouldn’t the Rose & Dot  quilt block make a cute baby quilt?

Or combine a few to create a Mother’s Day table runner?

Signed,

The Excited (but nervous) Grandmother,

Lori

Bummer….Couldn’t navigate to the right place to find the sweet Rose and Dot pattern…where is it located in the maze?

  • Helenanne

Have not had any luck finding the link for the Rose and dot block pattern. Is it still available?

  • Cathy B

I have about half the 100 blocks done and enjoyed making your rose and dot block.it was easy to do and looks great if I say so myself. So glad you were part of the splendid sampler 2 project. It is done for most, but not for me yet and I am sure others too. I follow you every time you send a blog out and learn so much from you. Happy mother’s day and thanks for all you do for all of us. Cathy B

    • I can’t find the link for the free block.

  • Kathy E.

Like a few others, I have no luck finding the Rose and Dot pattern or tutorial! I really love this block and hope I can be sent to the site where I can find the pattern! Thank you.

  • Bette

I couldn’t seem to find the Rose and Dot quilt block pattern either.

  • Rosemaryflower

I love this flower. This design is so adorable and simple, I am not participating in this sew along however I am thoroughly enjoying the results. Thank you for your enthusiastic pep, Lori.
Happy Mother;s day. I miss my mommy. She had a very long life (93) and now my daughters are mommies. I am so blessed.
I hope everyone enjoys their special day as mothers, or mother like individuals, you know who you are and all of you are gems. ❤️

The photos are wonderful. Your mom was very lovely and you look so much like her.
Designing a pattern that celebrates the lives of your mother and grandmother is a beautifully sentimental idea that makes me want to do the same for my mom and grand mom. The names Rose and Dot seem rather easy compared to Cecilia and Susanna. I miss them still and wish I could come up with and idea for them as well.

  • Julia Parrino

Thanks, Lori, for always inspiring us with more ideas for quilting. Just love it. One of your daughters looks a lot like your mom. I just can’t remember which one. I wonder if she reminds you of your mom? Enjoy your time with family, waiting for the new upcoming arrival. Have a nice Mother’s Day. Thinking of you, having recently lost your mom. God Bless.

Could not find the actual pattern or tutorial for the Rose and Dot block. Clicked on all of the links but just found discussion of the block. Thanks for your help.

Been missing my mother and my mother-in-law a lot lately, while sewing small quilts for the newborns in our family and friends. I think all have been born now that were due! I have moved on to a quilt for grandson due to turn age 11 in 2 weeks. Need to pick some motifs for the wide border it will have. He picked out a picture panel so it will not be heavily quilted over the picture area. What on earth goes with polar bears? LOL Lori, I love the photos of your mom and grandmom. They have lovely faces and hair. Would love to know what Miss Dorothy was seeing and thinking about ! Thanks for sharing them with us.

Yes l have finished all my blocks for the Splendid Sampler 2. Yes l have done the Rose and Dot Block. Thank you so much. I used the same colours as you, although l am not very good at needle turn applique. Totally enjoyed the journey in doing all blocks and a few extra.
Working on a baby quilt with a giraffe, elephant and lion on it . the animals are fusable appliqued. Close friends will be welcoming their first grandchild next month.
    HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! GOD BLESS.

  • Lori, I’d like to see more of the quilt in the top photo! Any chance for a photo of that? And, btw, it must be grandchild season … my third arrived in the wee hours of the morning on April 27.

  • Not yet! To either the grandchildren or the rose and dot block so far…but hopefully both will happen eventually. Since I love sampler quilts and want to learn applique, this block will be a perfect fit.

  • Barbara

I did the weekly free blocks, and your flower was defiantly one of my favorites, thank you Lori.

My husband has pieced a half square triangle baby quilt in a star design using pastel batik fabrics. I am doing the FMQ. Our 10 month old granddaughter will be making her first visit to Cape Cod in June, flying in from Colorado. Prayers and gratitude to all our mothers and grandmothers, both living and deceased, for their influence on our lives. Happy Mother’s Day!
