Good Morning, Machine Quilters!
I was doodling away and this fabulous machine quilting motif showed up on my notepad! (I love when that happens!) With a little machine quilting magic, we could create a beautiful row of flower pots like the Windowsill Garden HERE.
I plan to machine quilt a border of these modern flowers on my next quilt.
But I was really looking for a new machine quilting background motif, so I kept on doodling.
I tried a variety of combinations-some worked, some did not!
However, after several sessions of playing with the semi-circles, this interesting machine quilting background motif appeared!
How to Machine Quilt a Modern Half-Circle Motif
Start by drawing parallel lines to follow. This motif can be stitched large or small, so test the scale on your quilt before drawing the lines.
Step One
Stitch along one of the lines, then stitch a perpendicular line to the left.
Step Two
Stitch a half circle.
Step Three
Stitch back to the center line.
Step Four
Stitch through the center of the motif along the drawn line.
Step Five
Continue to add half circles to complete the row.
Step Six
Machine quilt the rows vertically or horizontally and stagger the rows to create a beautiful background fill motif.
Easy Motifs for Background Fills
Sometimes, simple is best!
Use this motif on solid fabric to create a modern background fill, or machine quilt the half circles on a print fabric to create an interesting texture.
Fun and fresh!
What about YOUR quilt collection?
Would Modern Half Circles turn YOUR quilt into a show piece?
We’d LOVE to hear!
Happy Stitching,
Lori

Hi Lori, I saw your tutorial on the Bernina site and noticed your table. Can you tell me what table you use and if you like it?
