Join the 25 Week FMQ Quilt-a-Long!

June 8, 2020
Good Morning, Quilters!

Please join us for the 25 week free motion quilt-a-long based on my new book 25 Days to Better Machine Quilting!

Starting on Monday, June 15, 2020, we will cover one chapter a week to help YOU improve your machine quilting skills and knowledge! Whether you are a beginner or more advanced quilter, there are tips, techniques and hands-on learning to advance your skill. Each week here at LoriKennedyQuilts.com,  I will offer more photos, links and support of the materials offered in the book.

No sign-ups required. Just meet here…(or sign up for my email…)

BEST Way to Learn FMQ

In my humble opinion, he BEST way to learn machine quilting (free motion or long arm) is by following the formula:

  • Learn
  • Practice
  • Receive Feedback
  • Repeat Practice
Learn

Machine quilting is a skill that can be broken down into smaller skills and techniques. Each lesson in 25 Days to Better Machine Quilting is an in-depth review of a technique or material.  Chapters include topics like “Adjusting Your Machine for the Perfect Stitch” and “Hand Position”.  Other lessons include information about choosing the right batting and thread for every quilt. Quilt design and custom quilting are also covered. (And so much more!!!)

Hands-on Practice

After reading the lesson, each chapter includes hands-on quilting practice. The projects illustrate and reinforce the lesson and allow YOU to test the theory in your own sewing room using your own materials. Most lessons include suggestions for doodling and then move into a fun project to complete in an afternoon.

Receive Feedback

Feedback can come in many forms. First, I recommend that YOU look at YOUR own quilts with a critical (but loving) eye.  (More on this later.)

You might also want to find a quilting buddy or small interest group within your quilt guild. (Friends and family are often better at seeing the good in our quilts and are not as distracted by the small faults.)

Join the Quilting with LKQ Facebook group! In the Facebook group ( a closed group) you will be able to easily post photos, see other student work, and receive feedback from me and other students.

Repeat Practice

Once you’ve tried a technique on a little project, you will be ready to use the skill in YOUR quilts.  The ultimate goal of 25 Days to Better Machine Quilting is for YOU to quilt YOUR quilt tops!

My Guarantee

By the end of 25 weeks of machine quilting, I GUARANTEE–YOU will be a better machine quilter!

I am so certain of this that I will give your book money back-if you do the lessons and you don’t see improvement. (Won’t happen-LOL)

Books are on the Way!

If YOU ordered from my Etsy shop YOUR book is on the way!  (THANK YOU!!!)

I can’t wait for YOU to get your “hands-on” YOUR book!

Doing a Happy Dance!

Lori

PS…Please tell YOUR quilty friends about our quilt-a-long! The More the Merrier!

So, so exciting, dearest Lori!!! Saturday, five of us were sitting outdoors having a quilt meeting in the sunshine with the required social distancing, doing show’n tell…. when my phone beeped with a message that a package had been delivered to my mailbox. So I went to see and it was your brandnew book!!!!!! What joy! All my friends got to see it first hand and loving it! They will probably get it, too, now and also sign up for your wonderful course. Thank you so much for inspiring us every week for so many years!!!! I deeply appreciate it. And thank you also for the little present of your stitching that accompanied the book 🙂 YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!! THANK YOU 🙂

  • Well, I still have the ‘real’ book on my Amazon wishlist (sorry, being in UK makes the shipping too high to buy from etsy) but have just got myself the kindle version so I can join in. 😊

  • Is there something we need to do to actually register for this class besides purchase the book? I can’t seem to find a JOIN button for it anywhere. Thanks. I have my book, delivered today!

  • Sharon Kalmes

  • I just ordered two books…..the 25 days and 1-2-3 and can’t wait to get them but I have never machine quilted before so I am a newbie to it. Hope I can do this. Can’t wait !!! Thank you !!!

  • Susan Marie Willison

Timing is perfect … I just “inherited” a new Bernina from my very alive mom and am sooooo tired of making masks. Have quilted my own quilts for decades and taught basic machine quilting but there is ALWAYS so much to learn and improve. I’ll use this process to be a beginner again … erase bad habits and acquire new skills.
And, by the by – thanks Lori, for the connection to my very northern mid west roots. Peace, healing and progress for Minnesota. Fresh snow here in the Colorado high country.

  • Hi Lori, I have your first book and have gained so much from your teaching and inspiration. I would love to participate in your FMQ quilt-a-long starting next week but I do not have your book .. 25 days to better Machine Quilting. It is not available in Australia yet, and the postage from USA is too expensive for each individual to have delivered Aus$37.50 for the book plus Aus$34.50 postage There must be a few Australian quilters wishing to participate as well as myself. If we could make contact we could arrange to do a bulk order from you to save on postage.( ?). Will we manage to follow the class without your book to begin with ? Can you tell me when and where it will be available in Aus.Please?
    Kind Regards Helen Lutz

  • I have not received any notification that my book has been shipped. I see that some have shipped but not mine, how do I find out when mine will be shipped?

  • Katherine Simonton

Will there be video’s each week or live class time on line? If so, do you know what time? Or is all info/links included in weekly email?? Would love to join in but I do work during the day-would I be able to get the info later in the day?? Sounds like fun!

  • My book arrived today! Gotta make supper before I can begin turning the pages!

  • Judy Millard

Is there a particular time for the quilt-a-long, or is it posted and then we can look at it?

  • Susan Coolidge

This is a really sweet thing for you to gift your readers. Thanks!

    Susan

  • I would like to be involved I. Your quilt along. Will it take place each Monday for the 25 weeks. If I miss a class can I catch up? Can I order your book somewhere in Canada online? Obviously at this late dat I will not have your book by the 15th.

This is so terrific to have this opportunity. Is it a hands on class, or practice after I watch your class demonstrated? Are there things I should have ready in advance of the class (being I don’t have your book yet)

    Sharon

  • Patricia
