I found this appliqué square while gathering my UFOs last month. I’m not sure when I’ll get back to stitching it but in the meantime I had a little fun with a free iPhone app called BlockCam.
Once I started playing with BlockCam, I couldn’t stop!
I wonder how we could use this app to turn photos into quilts???
Hope Your day is filled with creativity!

Electric Quilt 7 can turn your pictures into quilts like block cam. If you have it give it a try. Hope this help. Sorry I’m late…..catching up on my emails.

Where do we get the app? Couldn’t find it for the iPad.

Saw a quilt recently that looked ‘digitized”….it was very cool. Imagine the possibilities…searching for an ANDROID equivalent.

My son insists, “That’s the LEGO Mosaic app!”

That is so cool! Being a modern quilter I am always looking for ways to do things differently, I’m off to download the app. Thanks Lori!

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London also has a free service that you can upload your photo and turn it into a quilt pattern….http://www.vam.ac.uk/microsites/quilts/patchwork

Just downloaded the app. Love when I can find things like this thanks to people like you!! Keep it coming.

I wonder if this can be used to pixelate a quilt.

Muy fácil usar esta aplicación en un quilt. Tu asignas cada cuadrado de la foto a un cuadrado de 1×1″ (o el tamaño que tu asignes) en tu quilt. Será un quilt para difrutar a cierta distancia (lejos).

You don’t have to figure out how to use BlockCam. The Victoria and Albert Museum has a free online tool called Patchwork Pattern Maker which can transform any image into a quilt pattern. There are a range of choices for number of pieces, and colours as well as squares only or squares and half square triangle pieces. It’s very simple to use and comes with instructions as to how to construct your quilt.
I have not constructed a quilt using this tool yet, but it is definitely on my list.

This reminds me of the way a shimmer quilt looks when you take a photo of it. The bright and light triangles seems to blur into one another like photos 1, 2 and 6. Very interesting app you’ve found!

I searched for BlockCam just as you wrote it. Tried it in a variety of different ways, but couldn’t find it. Are you sure of the name?

Cool! I like the white daisy looking one…really shows you your value change…will be fun to try. I need a horse quilt for my niece…this might just work!!

No. I’ll go look them up. Thanks for the reference!

Have you ever seen Anne Orr’s quilts from the 1930’s? This kind of reminds me of them. Think small squares of fabrics, pieced.
Susan Jones
I love Ann Orr’s quilts! Thanks for mentioning that. I had completely forgotten them.

It’s no longer free…$0.99…still looks like we could have a lot of fun with it!

Looks like Leggo’s!

This would be a good app to turn a photo into needlepoint or cross stitch! A much shorter route than Photoshop or using a digitizer. Very cool!

How cool is this! Wonder if Photoshop would do the same thing? At my age, computers are still an amazing thing.

Yep, photoshop will pixelate your photos. This app just makes them look like lego blocks.

So useful for cross stitch, tapestry, knitting patterns and more!

Love it, I must download that app. I feel my creativity has just screeched onto a new side road, now where is that huge box of lego my sons used to have.
