I LOVE These Ornaments!
December 12, 2018
Good Morning, Quilters…I guess I should say, Good Afternoon! I’m running a bit behind! I was up early working on a HUGE project–more on that later this week–and I wanted to stay focused.Focus may be my 2019 word for the year!I wanted to pop in and share this adorable project with you. I made these stars last year following directions I found on another blog. Unfortunately, the instructions were lacking and I wanted to re-write and photograph my own version. But I never got around to it!Sometimes, procrastination pays off! Erika Mulvenna has a fabulous tutorial for the Danish Star Ornaments on BERNINA’s WeAllSew blog. Her instructions, which include short videos, are perfect! Erika is an exceptional instructor. Her tutorials are very clear and easy to follow! Thank you, Erika!!!While you’re over at WeAllSew, be sure to check out the adorable House Ornament Tutorial by Minki Kim.https://weallsew.com/holiday-house-ornaments/If you’d rather be free motion quilting, you might like to a quick project I designed to make coasters or ornaments! What about YOU?Any projects large or small you’d like to share? We’d LOVE to hear!Better-late-than-never,Lori

Wanted: Quilters who grew up as military brats or married someone in the military. I am writing a book about Quilters who created quilts that depict something about your military background. If you have one (or more) llsend me a pic and the story behind the quilt. Chris.babich@gmail.com

I have a similar pattern that I use with wide ribbon or heavy paper.. Haven’t done them for a number of years, but I thinkthe 4 center squares get folded so they stand up. The key is folding in the EXACT order that a pattern says. One wrong turn and it won’t come out correctly.

yes, with the paper stars, it took me three tries. What finally worked was watching the video 🙂

Then I made two small ones because I only have 11″ long paper

Lori, I just saw a tutorial on making those stars on Youtube by a guy named Mr. Domestic. I promptly started to make one but my strips weren’t long enough. As soon as I’m finished my sister’s quilt I’m going to make some. They are darling.
My sister’s quilt is greys and tans, very modern- just what she loves. My FMQ still isn’t the best but she knows nothing about sewing and won’t notice, thank goodness ! 🙂
That’s the nice thing about being the only quilter or sewist in the family.

I also used his directions and loved the way they turned out. Much stiffer looking than the stars made here, since he used Terial Magic instead of regular spray starch, and used a dap of Fabric Fuse glue at each step. Very durable.

Several Christmases ago I made a couple of these and showed them to my sewing group. I gave a couple of members the directions but several of the people could not figure them out. So, I made enough to give each member one at our last December meeting. I love how they turned out and put mine on our tree every year now. Picking the out the fabric is important so that they stand out on a green tree. Love yours!

Thanks for the links. I have not make your ornaments/mug rugs, so maybe this year to practice FMQ.
