I am an intermediate quilter when doing applique. As for free-motion, I’m definitely a beginner! Lori, you have given me the inspiration to try so many new styles of free-motion and I’m enjoying it. (I wouldn’t “frame” a pieces, yet, but it’s so much fun and your tutorials are so easy to follow.) Thanks for the opportunity to win the Sulky thread.

I am a beginner, FMQ and an intermediate at Machine Applique. I am just learning that thread and the correct needle produces Great Results! Would Love to win the Sulky Slim line! Thanks for the opportunity!

  • Gwen W

I would say I am an intermediate free-motion quilter, and a beginner at machine applique. Love your tutorials!

  • Nicole

    FMQ: intermediate
    Appliqué: beginner

    Thanks!

  • I am a beginner in FMQ and machine applique. I haven’t done free motion quilting yet but, I’ve done a couple of machine appliques. I’m brand new to sewing in general. I just joined the American Sewing Guild and have learned a bunch through them. In fact, I heard about this blog through the president of the Plano chapter. I’m hooked! Of course, I’d love to win some Sulky thread to start my collection. -Barbara

  • Karen Burchfield

Beginning to intermediate FMQ and intermediate machine applique. I love Sulky thread for both!

  • You are a beginner if you’ve never tried it; an intermediate if you have, and advanced if you have ever COMPLETED a project…. So that’s easy: I’m an advanced Free Motion Quilter and also advanced at machine appliqueing! 🙂 Sulky Rayon is great.

  • I love your demos! I am definitely a beginner in free motion quilting and an advanced beginner in machine appliqué. I also do some machine embroidery in my quilting. Sulky threads are beautiful and sew very nicely on my Bernina also.

  • I’d have to say I’m an intermediate at FMQ and a beginner at machine applique. I try to practice FMQ almost everyday and your blog has helped me get over the hump into the intermediate category! Thank you.

  • sandy t

I’m a beginner in both areas!!

  • tahoeauntiequilts

I am a beginner in FMQ but an intermediate in machine applique. I wish I had more time to practice with each of them. So many projects and not enough hours in the day.

  • I would say I’m Intermediate with my sewing applique and a bit above a beginner with Free Motion quilting. I agree with you that Sulky threads are great for whatever you sew. I use them for free motion, quilting/sewing, and for applique. It is a great thread.

  • I am an intermediate free motion quilter and a beginner@ machine applique.

  • Lori in NC

I am an intermediate FMQuilter. I would say I am advanced at Machine Applique. (I wish I had more time to work on each of them.)

  • Margaret Williams

Oooo, Oooo, I’d love to have that gorgeous thread. I’d consider myself to be fairly advanced at both FM and machine applique. But there’s always room for improvement…

  • Doris

Beautiful thread to work with. You put the time in and you need good thread.I am an intermediate in both. There is so much to learn.I love your blog and all your tips and tutorials.Would love to win and add new colors for blending.

  • Brooke L

I would say I am a beginner at both but working had to get better at fmq

  • Rae Ann Partridge

I am intermediate at machine embroidery. I want to learn free motion quilting.

  • I’, an intermediate free motion quilter….practice makes perfect and i don’t do enough practicing!!! But I can’t afford to send everything out to be quilted so I keep working on my quilting.

I’m a high level intermediate machine appliquer…can’t (or won’t) do hand applique so it’s the machine for me. I prefer to match my thread to the project rather than use clear thread. And my machine is happier with good thread. i use sulky, Coats and Clark, Aurifill, and other brands. If it matches, it works. I’m not fond of straight wound spools for the quilting. I do have lots of Coats and Clark embroidery thread which I use for free motion quilting.

  • I am a beginner at both.

I have been quilting since 2008. I’m still practicing with my Pfaff machine. Each quilt I try something different, but have never stepped out to try new threads. I have been reading this blog to get my courage up! Maybe stepping away from beige to something bright and beautiful might give me the push I need.

Applique is still very foreign to me. What applique I have done has mostly been by hand. I can’t fathom what one could do with muti-colors!

  • Nancy

I am a beginner for both skills. Thanks for the giveaway

  • Dee G

I am a beginner on free motion quilting and intermediate on machine applique. Thanks for the give away. I have never tried Sulky thread and would like to.

  • Dorothy Thrall

I have done free motion quilting, both with and without stitch regulator, but still consider myself a beginner, because I am not really good at it. But really like to do it anyway. I am intermediate, I think, with machine applique. Have done quite a bit of that with my quilting. I don’t do traditional quilts, I design my own, wall quilts mostly.
I love your blog. Thanks for all the good info on it.

  • Elaine Morgan

almost an intermediate free motion quilter and a beginner machine applique!

  • Tonie Peterson

I am definite beginner at free motion quilting but am intermediate at any form or applique. I can free motion but sometimes my speed is off and then I am a professional ripper!

  • Beginner at both, but totally inspired by you, Lori!

  • Cathy

    Hi there
so happy to have found you and your blog 🙂
I am an intermediate quilter and a tentative master of appliquer
    FMQ VERY VERY new
    Cheers Cathy

  • linda s

I am intermediate in both but those beautiful threads would make me feel like a pro!

  • I am a beginner free-motion quilter with only 6 months experience “practicing” and a few quilts with applied practice. Until that past couple months I never did applique, so I am definitely a beginner at machine applique. I seem to have a talent for machine applique and will do a lot more of it. Sulky threads work great on my machine as well as for hand stitching. I would love to have more!

  • Debra Reber

I am a Beginner at FMQ, It’s on my list of things I really want to be able to do, but I know it takes a lot of practice, & I just don’t have time to do lots of practice right now. I would consider myself intermediate at machine applique,

I consider myself intermediate free motion quilter and an intermediate applique category.

  • I would say that I am a beginner free motion quilter. I have been trying different threads to see which I like best. My last wall quilt I tried silky and loved it. I only have a couple of colors in my thread stash so far. I am also a beginner amplifier. Starting a sunbonnet sue calendar quilt. I just finished march. Please pick me!!

  • I’m a beginner FMQ’er and machine appliquer.

  • as a quilter I would consider myself intermediate. all is freehand and I love it. as for the appliqué part….I do raw edge appliqué all the time and get nervous just thinking about turning the edge to do appliqué. so…… I guess I’m in the intermediate category on both. all in all I LOVE to sew and quilt…

  • advanced at free motion, intermediate applique

I am a beginner at free motion quilting and i certainly try to stay away from applique. But if I need to it is definitely by machine. Hand sewing is a four letter word…ha ha

  • Karen Warren

I consider myself to be a beginning free motion and machine applique quilter. I am trying to get out of my comfort zone but can’t imagine launching into a project like a bed quilt. I look forward to learning some techniques on your blog and of course would love to be the recipient of all that beautiful thread!

  • linda

Beginner Free Motion Quilting and definitely beginner applique…I have done some raw edge applique and love it. Don’t have a big supply of thread because we can’t buy anything here in this small town and too expensive with postage and exchange to order on line. Thanks for the opportunity to win some thread!!!

  • Cecilia

I would say I’m an intermediate with free motion quilting and an intermediate with machine appliqué. I love the colors and the sheen of these threads. Thank you for the chance to win such a great prize.

  • Sheri B

Beginner free motion quilting and machine appliqué. Beautiful thread….

  • Kerri J Robinson

At machine Applique I am a beginner and at FMQ I believe I am a beginner to intermediate, as I’ve FMQ several Baby Quilts and small wall hangings but as of yet I haven’t tackled a bed size quilt . . .I do have 3 that are ready, when I am!

  • Sarah Scott

I consider myself in between a beginner and intermediate free motion quilter and I consider myself to be intermediate at machine applique. I am trying to do more free motion quilting when I have the time to quilt!! 🙂 Thanks for the awesome giveaway!! 🙂

  • Char H.

Beginning free motion-er. Advanced machine applique-er. I have done a ton of machine applique and love it but I live in a town where access to thread other than Coats and Clark is quite limited and so must pay for postage when I want other thread – different weights, thread other than cotton and polyester, etc. – and that has really limited my ability to experiment. So thanks for the chance to win this thread, I would love to try it and the colors are luscious.
