Somewhere below beginner in free motion. Intermediate in applique.

  • An intermediate free motion quilter and the applique also. I enjoy doing all kinds of machine crafts. Would like to win the Sulky thread, because it is the best for all kinds of sewing. Thanks.

  • Linda Lee C

I’m a beginner at both free motion quilting and machine applique.

  • Linda

I consider myself intermediate at both. I am comfortable with FMQing on my longarm, not as much on my Bernina, and there is always more to learn!! A reason to visit this blog 🙂

    • Intermediate is a big fat slice of the skill range and I happily find myself there for both machine appliqué and free motion quilting–I’m good enough that I can enjoy it and share my work … but far from being an expert. I love those Sulky threads, too and would love to win! Thanks for the opportunity (and for sharing your expertise in this great blog.)

  • Jennifer

I am a beginner free motion quilter. I find myself clinging to the traditional “follow the rules” quilting due to years of training by my Mother and Home Ec teacher. I am intermediate with machine applique, although I have no issue with “cheating” by using my embroidery unit!

  • Beginner at free motion quilting, and advanced at machine applique. I’ve never used Sulky thread, but would love to give it a try!

  • I am a big fan of Sulky threads and use them for quilting (30 weight is beautiful!), embroidery and appliqué. I am at a beginner level of free motion stitching and advanced level of appliqué. I would love to win this!

  • beginner; beginner

  • I consider myself an upper intermediate free motion quilter. I have not done a lot of machine appliqué but would like to incorporate more of it in my work.

  • Christine

I am a beginner of both machine quilting and machine applique. I love machine quilting but frustrated with thread problemes from time to time; on other hand, I enjoy machine applique a lot. I owned some Sulky threads, I love their shining colors.

  • FMQ = beginner (5 quilts so far) and Applique = maybe intermediate. I have been sewing for 55 years but am new to quilting. I have always wanted to make quilts, especially applique quilts, and recently discovered that I love love the quilting part, too, especially FMQ. I use Ricky Tims’ Stable Stuff and glue-baste for turned-edge, and fusible for raw-edge, machine appliques. I’ve used a variety of threads (trying to learn about threads) for both FMQ and applique but have never tried Sulky. I can see, Lori, from your photos how beautiful the Sulky is; so clearly I need to give it a shot. Thank you for your wonderful blog and especially for your great FMQ thoughts and tutorials.

  • Laura from PA

I consider myself a intermediate FMQ even though I have been doing it for about 17 years now. I still feel there are more techniques and motifs to be mastered. As far as machine applique? Truly a beginner. I prefer needle turn applique, actually I love to hand applique:-)I do use Sulky thread to do machine thread painting. I enjoy that as well, sew many things to be made/sewn and sew little time!

  • JENNIFER ENDRES

Hi Lori, am an intermediate FMQ and a beginner with applique. Thanks!

  • Elizabeth McMahon

As a beginner at free motion quilting, I am inspired to keep on practicing by your excellent tutorials! I am an intermediate applique who looks forward to using Sulky rayon as I continue.

    Betsy

  • I am an intermediate at free motion quilting and a beginner at the applique technique. Love your tutorials.

    • Kathy Wright

I am a beginner at Free Motion. I’ve done two quilts doing simple free motion designs. I am also a beginner at applique. I use the Sulky rayon for Embroidery. Love it~

  • Sheri

I considered my self an intermediate free form quilter. I have tried several applique techniques and I use a tiny zigzag stitch on my applique pieces. I would consider myself an intermediate some my say advanced.

  • Renata

I consider myself a beginner at free motion quilting and machine applique. I have used your designs in my table runners. I enjoy applique with satin stitching, occasionally I use a blanket stitch.

  • Hello, I am a beginner at free motion quilting and applique. I have a Babylock Ellisimo and just bought the stitch regulator, but I have not started playing yet. I too love Sulky products.

Hi! I am a beginner at free motion quilting, and a slightly more advanced beginner at machine appliqué. Sulky thread would be amazing for the art quilts I like to do! Thanks for offering this contest

  • Jackie

I love Sulky thread, I use it for all my machine embroidery. I would say I’m an intermediate with machine applique and a very beginning intermediate with free motion quilting.

  • Julie Smith

i would say I am a beginner intermediate with my free motion quilting skills. your tutorials are absolutely perfect for following along and learning new skills. i love it that they are small enough so they can be easily practiced. i am an intermediate with machine applique too. i have used mostly aurofil or guterman thread but with your encouragement i will probably try some sulky next.

  • Karen

I am a beginner at free motion quilting but striving to advance to the next level. Practice, practice, practice! The tutorials are a huge help. I am a beginner at machine appliqué, but intermediate at hand appliqué.

  • LumaLu

I am new to the world of FMQ and machine/hand appliqué. I really enjoy your tutorials! You explain your art so completely. Thank you!

  • Nancy Weber

I am a beginner at free motion quilting. I tried it once and was so intimidated that I have not tried it again. It takes lots of practice for those of us who work “inside the box”. However, I do love machine appliqué quilting and consider myself intermediate. Love Sulky thread, especially the new Poly Lite.

  • Carolyn

The colours are gorgeous. I am a beginning FMQ and a beginner at machine applique, but quilting in general and by hand is my passion.

  • I am advanced at FMQ, but a beginner at applique. I didn’t realize quilting would take such a strong hold of me and become my passion! This thread would definitely open a lot of experimental doors!

  • Suzanne Beringer

I am definitely a beginner at Free Motion Quilting. I’ve taken a class and have done some small projects but scared to tackle anything big! I am probably an Intermediate at Machine Applique. I do enjoy it and have used some of Sulky’s threads an love them! I would be thrilled to win this!

  • Veralee Gillespie

I consider myself intermediate in free motion and beginner in machine appliqué, I have problems with my hands so the cutting appliqué is very hard, I have recently purchased a Silhoutte and a Scan and Cut to get these to do the cutting out of appliqué pieces and this is helping, but I now have the learning curb of these machines.. But no matter where I am at in the process quilting, appliqué, machine embroidery I an learning new every day. This is a great giveaway. Someone is going to be very happy.

  • Christine

H, I am a beginner at Free motion Quilting. I have watched a couple shows and hope to practise it soon. I am an intermediate at machine applique. At least I feel more confident doing it.

  • Eggplant87

I want to consider my self an intermediate, but a beginner is a right answer. I still need to work in details. I am definitely a beginner at machine appliqué.

  • Kristine Leaman

I am a beginner at both machine appliqué and free motion work. I am very fascinated by both and hope to not only try my luck but become proficient. I like the Sulky products so far for embroidery.

  • Debbie Marsh

Beginner in both appliqué and free motion quilting

  • I love those threads….I am sorta intermediate in free motion quilting, just a bit hesitant at trying more than a meander and a beginner at machine appliqué!

  • I am a beginner at free motion machine quilting. But I feel I am an intermediate machine applique quilter.

  • I learned machine embroidery the old ARMSTRONG way when you hooped in hand embroidery hoops and free motion moved hoop yourself. I am intermediate free motion quilter (due to essential tremor) but advanced machine embroidery person.

  • Barb Buchanan

Intermediate both. I have hand embroidered since my Grannie got me going on pillowcases and have hand quilted since I learned from the elders in Nova Scotia 36 years ago. I am having a ball machine quilting, so freeing and the machine embroidery is coming alittle slower. Love your posts, Lori. Lots quicker by machine !

  • Beverly P in Byers, CO

I also love this Sulky. It was the first embroidery thread I bought. I am a beginner at everything to do with sewing. I’m trying to learn all I can.

  • Peg Jacobs

What a wonderful Giveaway! I would have to say that I am intermediate when it comes to free motion quilting, with a lot to learn! Very intimidated at first with it, but loving the freedom it gives with each quilt. Applique is very new to me but I see a lot of fun in my future with it…so definitely a beginner there!

  • Janet L

    Hi,
I am a beginner in the free motion quilting arena and an intermediate machine appliquer.
    Janet

  • I still consider myself a Beginner Free Motion quilter because I have so much to learn. I consider myself an Intermediate Machine Applique quilter. Having lots of beautiful thread will get my quilting really going!

  • Barb E., Highlands Ranch, CO

I also love Sulky rayon thread. It’s gorgeous. I’d love to win this!! I am a novice FMQer. Somewhere between beginner and intermediate, thanks to you, Lori. And an intermediate applique-er.
