I am a beginner at both…and would love to try working with the Sulky threads…winning them would just be the icing on the cake! Thank you for all the tips and a chance to win!

  • Wanda

I consider myself a beginner at FMQ and intermediate at appliqué. I’m enjoying both.

  • Peggy Saia

I have just started to learn how to quilt with my machine. I have used it mostly for sewing clothes and crafts. The only appliqué I have done is with a purchased pattern for the embroidery.

    • Tonya

I too love my Sulky threads!!!! I am a beginner when it comes to the FMQ on my machine but use my longarm for most of my quilting. I love applique and consider myself an intermediate in that area. Love following your blog posts.

  • Phyllis McCord

I am definitely a beginner in both areas. I’m more experienced in piecing and hand and machine embroidery – and I still use and love Sulky thread. I’ve used rayon threads for a long time because I didn’t know about the rumours!

  • Susan

Definitely a beginner at free motion quilting and maybe advanced beginner at machine embroidery. I do love the Sulky Threads as that is what my machine seems to love best!!

  • Karen McBrayer

Hi, I’d say intermediate on free motion and definitely beginner on machine applique.

  • Diana

I consider myself a beginner in both categories. I love sewing and recently bought a sewing/embroidery machine. I have always loved sewing! I started sewing doll clothes and animals by hand when I was a child. This machine has taken me to new depths of creativity! I would love using your products!

  • Theresa

A machine applique beginner, as I’ve only attempted it a couple of times, ages ago. As for machine quilting, intermediate some days, beginner on other days. I always practice and warm up on a scrap sandwich so I know if today’s a quilting day or not.

  • Kathie

I am most definitely a beginner on both free motion and applique!

  • Sandy

I hover in the middle of the road in both FMQ and MA. That is, until I encounter a new pattern and then I bounce back to beginner again. There is so much to learn and so many patterns to master! I would love to give the Sulky threads a spin in my machine! Love the sheen and all of the yummy colors!

  • JoAnn L

Advanced beginner 😉 on free motion and intermediate on machine applique.

  • Kathryn

I am an intermediate at free motion quilting, and at machine applique. I have a lot of giant spools of rayon embroidery thread (for use with my embroidery machine), but never tried it for free motion. Sounds interesting.

  • Brenda

I am probably a beginner at free motion quilting and intermediate in machine applique. Am learning more and more about FMQ.

  • Beth-Near Washington DC!

OoooooooooooooH a great thing to win… I am Intermediate at FMQ and Advanced in machine applique… and in addition I do Threadpainting… which the Rayon is particularly relevant for as well, especially the variegated colors. Talk about adding some sparkle and shine!

  • WOW what an awesome giveaway! Hi Lori! I am a free-motion quilting beginner and a formerly intermediate machine applique aficionado who hasn’t done it in awhile. Perhaps because I don’t have good/enough/pretty thread? I’ve moved a few times lately and not only has that disturbed/destroyed my (at one time growing) thread collection, I also happened to leave behind a very cool giant thread pegboard that my dad made me years ago…now, you know it wasn’t fancy – just dowels in a board and easily recreated – but it’s one of those things I look back on and think “why?” about. I guess everybody has those regrets…funny that mine’s about a thread board! You would be surprised at how often I think of that!

  • Clarice Dean

Hello and thank you for hosting this question. I would consider myself a beginner at free motion quilting, but I’m improving with every stitch! But perhaps intermediate with machine applique. I got a lot of experience with applique when I did the machine appliques on a monster quilt for my grandson. I just stopped practicing and jumped right into a BIG project. I love Sulky too. And, it is nice that I can drive to JoAnn for Sulky thread if I need a new color fast. So many people say only quilt with cotton thread, but I started using decorative threads…….they just look great. No plain white cotton thread for me! Boring!

  • I am somewhere between a beginner and intermediate free motion quilter. I know I need to practice more! I do not do very much machine applique, so I am a beginner. Very glad to have found your blog, and thank you for sharing your talent and creativity.

  • Donna W

I would say that I am a beginner at both. But, I have been practicing my FMQ. Thanks for your great tutorials which are great inspiration

  • thimble

A beginner in FMQ and intermediate in machine appliqué, LOVE the sheen when using the satin stitch!

  • Nancy Ensor

I consider myself to be between beginner and intermediate on both counts. I do LOVE doing both and frequently use Sulky rayon thread. I especially love the Blendables!

  • I’m a beginner at FMQ, but intermediate to advanced on applique (I’ve been sewing for 45 years!) Your site is my favorite for learning and practicing new moves! and I refer to your site for ideas very often!!!

  • I’m a beginner on appliqué and maybe intermediate on free motion quilting…learning more and more all the time! Love your blog!

  • Dinah

I would say I’m advanced in these categories. However, there is ALWAYS room to grow and learn new techniques and methods 🙂 Great giveaway!

  • Donna

I am an beginner at free motion-but working hard not to be! I’m intermediate with applique LOVE your blog, it’s the first thing I check each morning ,thanks for sharing.

  • Kathy

As far as free motion quilting, I’m not sure I even want to call myself a beginner. I took a class and was told I could use my existing machine to do a king size quilt. Really??? The whole thing just escapes me.

As to machine applique, I’m probably somewhere between a beginner to an intermediate. I usually use Sulky Blendables for this and for attaching the binding to my quilts.

But by looking at you blog, I may now consider using Sulky for some of my hand embroidery in addition to or instead of the DMC threads. Thanks for the thought.

  • Pat Bennett

I am a beginner even though I TRY to free motion all of my small charity quilts. I feel its good practice. Maybe after about 10 more quilts I can say I am intermediate. As to applique, I think I have reached the intermediate level, since I have taken classes to improve my ability.
I would love to win the Sulky threads. I envision beautiful designs!

  • DebrafromMD

I would consider myself a beginner at free motion quilting and intermediate at machine applique.

  • Dana Robbins

I consider myself an intermediate in both free motion quilting and machine applique. The main thing that I need to improve on is statin stitching. I love the Sulky threads and have a small collection.

  • I would consider myself an intermediate machine quilter. I have recently started a little business machine quilting for other people (for pay). However, I do not believe I am in the advanced category. I have seen those quilts at the Home Machine Quilting Show and I am not there yet! 🙂
I am in the “confident beginner” machine applique category. I get it right, most of the time; but I don’t tackle the tough stuff!
Thanks so much for sponsoring the giveaway! I love your blog!!

  • Barbara

I am a intermediate at machine applique and advanced at free motion quilting.

  • Becky

I’m trying to BE a beginner at both free motion and applique. Just bought a new high end embroidery machine that is incredible, and am learning — that is re-learning to sew again! I learned originally (age 6) on my mother’s machine that was bought for her in 1949 or maybe even a couple years earlier. It has many attachments that are advanced, such as a ruffler! I still have the machine and it still works! I always made my clothes, and then clothes for my children when they were young. Now retired, I want to begin again with the wonderful techniques I keep seeing and reading about. I hope I win….I LOVE Sulky, and try to buy a bit at a time so I have many, many colors.

  • Barbara

I consider myself an intermediate free motion quilter and intermediate at machine appliqué although I been doing it for many years

  • I am a sort of “experienced” beginner at FMQ and an intermediate applique-er. And my machine, too, loves Sulky threads.

  • Carolyn Calfee

I am a beginner free motion and machine quilter – just starting and I LOVE doing this. Want to complete some of the quilt tops I have pieced but never quilted. Sure could use thread – what a very nice give away 🙂

  • Edna Kidd

I am definitely a beginner, but I love The challenge. Thank you for the opportunity to win Sulky thread…

  • TonyaS

I am wanting to be a beginner machine quilter and an moving from a beginner to an intermediate machine embroiderer.

  • I’ve been free-motion quilting for 6-7 years now, but would consider myself intermediate. I don’t really like machine applique, so I guess I’d be a beginner at that. Although I do enjoy the fusible applique technique with stitching the edges down.

  • TonyaSews

I am a beginning machine quilter and an intermediate machine embroiderer.

  • Kathryn

I’m a struggling intermediate FMQer. Most things turn out pretty well but I still haven’t found a comfort level that makes it fun. I’m also intermediate at machine applique. Love Sulky threads! Thanks for the opportunity to win some!

  • Sheila

I am a beginner at free-motion quilting as well as machine applique, but have used these sulky threads a few times on my quilt labels, and just love them. Thank you for the opportunity to win this beautiful collection, and for generously sharing your tutorials and expertise with us.

  • I am most definitely a beginner for both! I have found that both challenge me…. And having won a trip to Houston’s international quilt show last October, I’ve decided the more I learn the less I know! And I am in agreement with you on using Sulky all the time!

    • I am definitely a beginner long arm and free motion quilter, I quilt and incorporate embroidery in my quilts, either by machine or hand, I am amazed at how easy you make it look!

I love Sulky threads! And have used them in my valor quilts to give away, the sheen is spectacular!

      Linda

  • Meriul

What a fantastic Sulky give away! I am an intermediate free motion quilter with much room for improvement and am a beginner/intermediate at machine appliqué. I am inspired by all you do, Lori. Thanks for this opportunity to win.

  • I consider myself to be an intermediate at machine quilting, and a complete beginner at applique! Thanks for this amazing giveaway.

  • Carol Millman

I am definitely a beginner at Free Motion Quilting. And a major scaredy-cat.
Much better at machine applique, but barely intermediate.

  • Denise Mitchell

I would consider myself as an Intermediate to both.

  • I consider myself somewhere between beginner and intermediate in both appliqué and machine quilting.

  • Colleen

I’m an experienced beginner at FMQ and still need A LOT of practice. I’m a true beginner at machine appliqué (or any appliqué for that matter).

  • Virginia

I’m a beginner free motion quilter and intermediate at machine applique.

  • Brenda S

‘Morning! I would say I am a intermediate FMQ-er and beginner applique-er. I’ve been dabbling in “painting” the fabric instead. Just this past weekend I pulled out some Sulky rayon, because my cotton was being rather non-cooperative…boy, the Sulky rayon sure made my Sunday happier!

  • Karen J.

Definitely beginner in free motion quilting, but intermediate in applique.
