Circle Pop, Machine Quilting, Lori KennedyGood Morning, Quilters!

One of my favorite motifs is Grid Pop (page 140 of my first book). It creates a very striking background in any quilt and it mixes nicely with other motifs and in quilts, for example- here  and on Mr. Nutcracker HERE

Free Motion Quilting, Pumpkin, Acorn, Oak Leaf

The motif can be adapted to any shape to create dramatically different results.  By changing the squares to circles, we can quilt the Circle Pop machine quilting motif.

CIRCLE POP-A MACHINE QUILTING TUTORIAL

Begin by stitching a circle.  In the samples here, the circles are slightly smaller than a dime, but could be made much larger or slightly smaller, depending on your quilt.circle pop, machine quilting tutorial, Lori Kennedy

For the first circle, echo stitch around the shape several times.

Add another circle.

Echo stitch the circle until the point where it intersects the previous circle.

Reverse directions to echo stitch back.

Continue outlining the circle with clockwise and counter-clockwise revolutions.  By stitching it this way, we minimize the number of times the stitching line crosses itself.

For a slightly different effect, echo stitch full revolutions, allowing the lines to cross. (This may look better if you are using a low-contrast or lighter weight thread than I am using here.)

Try both versions of the Circle Pop quilting motif to see which works best for you and for your quilt.

Try this motif with a variety of circle sizes too!

Here’s a little music to get you moving!

YOUR QUILTS

What about YOU?

Do YOU have a quilt that needs a little POP?

Are you going round in circles?

Your Dizzy Friend,

I like this one and I think most of us could do it!! I will use it on one of my floral blocks as I mentioned yesterday I am making a multi sized block quilt for my niece out of yesterday’s feed sacks. I personally learned to sew with them, making skirts for myself for school. My youngest niece, Chelsy now 28 often stayed with my parents when mother was 80 + years and she was a toddler. I once visited my parents and Chelsy was enjoying vacumning my mom’s floor when she was about 4 or 5 years old. Grandchildren have the best memories of their grandparents when they are able to spend time with them. Enjoy your little ones!!, mine are almost grown up 17 to 24!

LOL yes I believe I am going around in circles, but it’s all good! I started grandbaby sitting so my “baby” could go back to work! It’s all good though, they grow up so fast, I’m happy to have the opportunity, and it’s only for 6 months. I plan to tell her all about fabric, colors and sewing!
