Great! That was quick!
The plane is already de-iced, so we are ready to take off…
(but LEAVE YOUR MOBILE DEVICES ON!!!)
PATTI’S PLANE-AN AIRPLANE MACHINE QUILTING MOTIF
Begin by stitching a vertical figure eight.
Add a scallop and a triangle tail.
Stitch a straight line and a small scallop.
Extend the scallop at an angle and create a rounded triangle wing.
Stitch over the scallop (closely echo stitching) and continue stitching to the front of the plane.
Stitch along the first scallop and add a right angle triangle to create the pilot’s window. (Hi Patti!)
Stitch along the top of the plane and add a rounded triangle to create the other wing.
Closely echo stitch the top of the plane and add scallop clouds or swirls to travel to the next plane motif.
Once you are comfortable with the basic plane, add your own variations-like windows and stripes or other embellishments.
Nothing but blue skies as far as the eye can see!
This motif would make a great border or background fill!
If you doodle first you’ll avoid all tailwinds!
I can’t wait to add this to a quilt!
What about YOU?
Do YOU like to fly?
Do YOU have a trip planned?
Do YOU have a border or block just waiting for this airplane motif?
We’d LOVE to hear!
Your quilt pilot,
Lori

This little plane is adorable! Reminds me of the little plane I just rode from Chicago to Eau Claire, WI tonight. I agree with the ones who said they could see a whale. That scallop shape looks like it could be the hump on a whale.
I just ordered your new book on etsy. I LOVE the first one SO MUCH!!!

Before retiring I worked a corporate job where I had to travel a lot and I grew to hate it. Air travel was lovely 50 years ago – today its more like an airborn cattle car. But I love being at home quilting and I can most definitely see this as a border design for my next baby boy quilt. It’s adorable!

I think I can feel a charity quilt coming on, with a border of planes! I have two trips planned for this year ….. the second one a major trip to Australia, where I will get to spend time with my fabulous Australian quilting buddies!

Tried ordering your book through Etsy but cc declined and the company said no issues with it so emailed a message to Etsy. I’ve never had a problem with any ordering before.

Weird! I have no idea! Let me know if you don’t get it resolved and we can make other arrangements!

So Cute! I see a dolphin or a whale coming out of this airplane too! Leave off the propeller and the wings, modify the tail and dive into the ocean!
