Good Morning, Quilters!
Today, we are going to learn how to free motion quilt an egg in a basket! It’s adorable–especially when you use variegated thread!
But first….some fun news!
Yesterday, I was interviewed via Skype by Alex Anderson of The Quilt Show. We chatted about quarantine quilting, our LKQ community, UFOs and of course–free motion quilting. The short interview will be included in their newsletter on Friday. Be sure to check your inbox and do me a favor–flood The Quilt Show with comments! LOLOL
The Egg in the Basket Motif
Today’s tutorial is sponsored by BERNINA’s We All Sew blog. The step-by-step tutorial can be found here along with a short video.
I had a hard time creating nice ovals, so I cut a stencil out of paper and traced that before stitching. I do as little marking as possible, but sometimes it is necessary to get the best results. However, you may find you don’t need the stencil after doodling for a while.
I used Sulky 30wt cotton Blendables to machine quilt the egg and the flowers in this spring quilt.
To create the subtle background design, I used a yellow variegated thread.
The Baby Chick Motif
The Egg in the Basket motif would look great with last spring’s Baby Chick pattern–also from We All Sew!
Call Your BERNINA Dealer
With most of us “safer at home”, many sewing machine stores are still offering sales. BERNINA has a Spring Sale including very favorable financing deals. If you are considering a new machine, this is a great time to jump in by calling your dealer.
I LOVE my BERNINA 770QE and my BERNINA Q20 sit down long arm!
Though…I’m seriously considering taking the plunge and buying the Q24 on the long arm frame!!!! Eeek–exciting but can I learn a new way of stitching?!
Stay Home, Make Quilts
Hope YOU are well–and practicing free motion quilting and finishing UFOs?
How will YOU make Easter and Passover special this year?
Are YOU quilting every day?
We’d LOVE to hear!
