How to Doodle Circles

February 27, 2020
Good Morning, Quilters!

Today we are going to learn how to doodle circles!  Of course you don’t need a lesson in how to doodle circles…

Our mini-class, Better Quilting Through Doodling is not so much a series of lessons as it is a list of prompts to encourage you to doodle.  Doodling helps quilters develop better muscle and visual memory-and helps to create new designs.

Before we get started…

Teaching in Virginia

Just a quick programming note.  I will be teaching workshops in Arlington and Reston Virginia on March 8 and 9.  There may be a few slots open…if you are interested, please email me at Lori@LoriKennedyQuilts.com for more information.

Circles

Let’s doodle circles!  Start by creating small circles.  Don’t rush.  Doodle carefully and try to make well-formed circles that close neatly.

How to Doodle Circles

Doodle circles in different sizes.  Combine circles to create doughnuts.  YUM!!!

Doodle rows and rows of circles.  Try different pens.  Try crayons and markers and pencils.

Add embellishments on the inside of the circles.

Then add embellishments to the outside of the circles.

Doodle three concentric circles and embellish each circle to create new designs!

Are you having fun yet?

Doodle Motifs too!

While you’re doodling, practice the Twisted Loops motif from our Tuesday Tutorial.

And look through Free Motion Machine Quilting 1-2-3 and More Free Motion Quilting 1-2-3 for other circle motifs to doodle. (Shameless self-advertising.)

Building Blocks

Continue to practice the doodle shapes from our previous lessons.

Doodles are the building blocks to more complex patterns and free motion quilting motifs.

We started with How to Doodle Scallops

Then we learned How to Doodle Tapered Scallops

Next week, we will have a lot more fun when we begin combining the doodles to create motifs and patterns!

Until then,

Toodles,

Your Doodle Diva,

Princess of the Pen,

Lori
