How To Doodle Circles and Lines

March 5, 2020
Good Morning, Quilters and Doodlers!

Today we are going to learn how to doodle with circles and lines!

Well, “learn” is a strong word for doodling….We are going to practice doodling–  circles and lines are the prompt.

Today, your challenge is to only use circles and lines!

I often find that  limiting the elements, makes doodling easier.

Narrowing the options actually increases my creativity.  You might find this true as well.

How to doodle with circles and lines
Start with Circles

For this exercise, I used a marker and dot grid paper from Ecoqua.

(NOTE-I  like small  size (5 x8) of the Ecoqua A5 and the paper quality. The paper pulls out very easily-making it better for loose leaf-and to create stationery-than for a notebook.)

Fill a page with circles.  Then embellish with more circles and lines.

How to Doodle Circles and Line Flowers

Decorate the bottom of your stationery with small circles and lines.  Try your hand at flowers.

What about YOU?

Fantasy Forest Underbrush?

Mushrooms and trees anyone?

I’ve little experience with machine quilting so as a result I have many unfinished quilt tops. Since the doodles are not continuous line quilting how do you handle so many starts and stops?

Loooooori I love your doodles – you make it such fun. I love your ideas of these circle and seperated lines. When you FMQ them do you tie off each circle and line and make a jump stitch to the next location? If so, do you find that the triming of the jump stitches tidies up well and do they unravel or stay tight? Thank you,

Lori, I love this! I am going to use these ideas in my Bible Journaling. I love simple line designs without the fuss of perfection.

Circles are challenging for me….nope mine sure don’t look like yours!
But I know, practice, practice, practice and they will get better!

Going mad here, I read the strap line of your email as ‘how to doodle crocodiles’!! A little tired as having driven 3.5 hours to take my mum shopping!
