How to Doodle a Whimsical Sheep

April 9, 2020
Good Morning, Quilters and Doodlers!

Today, we are going to learn how to doodle a whimsical sheep.  The sheep’s body is the perfect place to practice  machine quilting motifs!

And just in time for spring!  (Spring?!? It snowed in Minnesota last week!)

The Whimsical Sheep Doodle

Start with simple shapes to create the head like a squared off triangle.  Add leaf shape ears.  You can add simple round eyes or try spoke like eyes.  Stars or other shapes would also work well.

Simple Body Shapes

Then add a large shape to create the body.  Try adding the body in different positions–off to the right and centered, for example to create a variety of sheep poses.

Add skinny legs.

A White Sheep

The body of the sheep provides a blank slate to fill.  See how many different breeds you can create!

Don’t Stop with One!

Try a variety of pens and markers to create different line weights and patterns.

Once you get started, I’m sure you’ll be counting sheep all night!
