Happy Birthday, America!

I hope all of YOU are spending a joyful summer day with family and friends!

Red, White Blue Quilt, Lori Kennedy

The Red, White and Blue quilt (directions HERE)  is finished–binding too!

The blocks are machine quilted in a variation of The Basic Block–we’ll learn the variation this week….

I added machine quilted, Shining Stars in the corner–(machine quilting for Shining Stars motif tutorial HERE)

This was stitched on my BERNINA 770 QE–a fabulous machine with extra harp space and great tension control for a perfect stitch every time.  (The BERNINA 770 QE is a domestic sewing machine.)

This is going to be a present for someone special….details coming soon…so I used wool batting for a little more loft.

Now all I need is a glass of lemonade and a little Ray Charles, singing America the Beautiful!--It wouldn’t be Fourth of July without it!

(We had a neighbor –years ago–a Marine whose license plate read, “IWO JIMA”  who would blast America the Beautiful on the Fourth of July…)

God Bless Ed Melicher!

God Bless America!

and God Bless all who serve and their families!

Hope YOUR day is filled with all the BEST of America!

Lori

I love all the comments today. This one is so well written, I cried..My last “military” uncle, from the Korean era, just had to go into nursing home. He doesn’t know any
of us anymore. The “price” the soldiers paid seems to spread to family and friends like ripples in a pond. We attended local fireworks last night with grands and then watched the late night TV fireworks. I saw the camera pan the crowds and cried again as their faces shown with joy. Yes, Pat, may God continue to bless our country.
Let us be ready to follow Him to preserve the freedoms in our corners of the USA.
Surely Lori’s 8000+ quilters can cover all these corners, binding our relationships with love and our quilting with a measure of charity.(that is love, too)

  • To loosecannon2- Thank you for the reminder that “Freedom is not free” – I will remember that and remind my family. My brother-in-law commented, upon hearing the sound of fireworks late into the night- that he has not fallen asleep to those sounds for many years (He was in the Army in Viet Nam). So, to all of the men, women and families who have given so much, I honor you and thank you and will remember that even though I did not pay the price for the freedom that is in my country and is especially unique to women- I do cherish it.
May God continue to bless our country.

That quilt is so wonderful, Lori. Thank you for all you inspiration and encouragement!!!

  • Happy Birthday America and a happy Birthday to my youngest son, born on the same day and turning 36! Mum happy because he was delivered safely and on the birthday of her favourite Aunty Mary and America’s independence day! A really special day and an amazing child, now a grown man with a baby of his own to love and cherish!

Happy Independence Day everyone. I am making the table runner with matching napkins & am almost at the end & they are so pretty. We’ve several veterans on our street–some are still suffering with relapses (PTSD) as is my son. For our family this holiday is a reminder that FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!

Please enjoy this day to the fullest—Lori, your inspiration & generosity cannot be measured; Thank You for being there.

Like Marta, we are so thankful for so many blessings & will try not to forget them throughout the year. By the way, we’ve Ray Charles blasting away on our screened porch.

Wow Lori, I love how you quilted the red/white/blue quilt. I’m still at the assembly stage. The centre is done, just deciding on borders. It will be a UFO for another week or so, as I’m off to a wedding in Montreal. I’ll have to master the star border before I begin. It certainly adds to the overall loveliness of the end product. Very charming, and love the rope-detail binding. Wishing you a great 4th, and wave a sparkler for me. Cheers, from your neighbours to the north.

God bless Ed, Ray Charles, our forefathers’ descendents, the vet next door, the mom whose mate and son left us by their own hand (PTSD) and God bless Lori and her family and God we implore blessings on our wonderful USA. We don’t want to fight anyone, we just want to sew quilts that will be the blessing to those who receive them.
Lori, this little quilt is precious ! Love the stars too. I finally finished the R W B table runner I sewed for our daughter and family..presented day before yesterday. They and the children are coming here for supper and then fireworks over the lake in front of our house. Spouseman is out of his hard cast and walking in a boot !! I really feel blessed this year.
