Good Morning, Quilters and Doodlers!
Today we are going to create flower doodles in our series, Better Quilting Through Doodling...
But First….
Another Art Heist !
Did you see the news that a VanGogh painting was stolen from a Dutch museum last week?!
The masterpiece was stolen from The Singer Laren museum. It was on loan from another Dutch museum, the Groninger Museum.
Sadly, many art thefts are never resolved!
Start with Watercolor
Begin by painting a few large circles on a sheet of watercolor paper. ( I like Canson Watercolor paper.)
Use any watercolor paint. Student sets are available at most grocery stores. This Artist Loft set includes a lot of colors.
However, you might want to invest a little more in a set like this Windsor Newton Travel Set. The colors and richer and the paint is nicer.
While the paint is wet, drop a darker color into the center of the circles to add interest.
Choose Colors
Limit your palette to just a few colors-
Or mix it up and create a rainbow of flowers!
Choose a Pen or Two
Once the paint is dry start adding doodles. Any marker will work. Try a variety!
For this project I used the Pentel Brush Medium.
I like this brush pen because the ink is very dark. It is more like a paint brush than a pen.
Doodle Flower Motifs
Doodle flowers and spirals over the watercolor circles.
Refer to the Flower Chapter in Free Motion Machine Quilting 1-2-3.
Or try the tutorials for motifs like Flower Power,
And of course, design your own!
Lock and Key
You might want to place your finished masterpiece in a safe.
Keep YOUR art safe!
What about YOU?
Do YOU have a variety of art supplies in YOUR stash?
Have YOU ever tried mixed media?
Do YOU need a little color in your life?
We’d LOVE to hear!
May all of YOUR doodles become masterpieces!
