Today’s Topic: Fantasy Flower Quilt Doodles
Good Morning, Quilters and Doodlers!
Doodles don’t have to be mindless meandering. Sometimes it’s better to have a plan when you begin doodling.
This month we will be following a plan to become better doodlers.
The goal is to then translate our doodles into quilt motifs.
Check out the other 2021 doodle lessons:
Add Layers to Spirals and Petals
Add New Petal Shapes
Today, let’s create fantasy flowers by repeating the last two lessons with new petal shapes.
Start with a small spiral, and add elongated loops, a flame, and a modified heart shape.
Small Center Spirals, Large Center Spirals
New petals make all new motifs!
Add Layers
What happens when you add more layers while keep the petal shape the same?
Are YOU inspired to quilt?
Linen Pen Roll
I recently made this linen pen roll to keep my doodling tools organized.
First, I hemmed all the edges, then I folded the bottom edge up and stitched channels for the pens.
The twill tape wraps around the roll.
At first, the pens kept falling out of the top, so I added a top flap to protect the pens.
It is a fun afternoon project. (I may have to make one for my makeup!)
What about YOU?
How do you keep your pens and pencils organized?
Have YOU quilted any of your doodles?
We’d LOVE to hear!
Is YOUR real garden under a foot of snow like mine?

How often are these posts going to come? Should we just keep doodling the things you’ve shared so far?

Sorry, Linda. I’ve been a little off my game lately. I will try to add a new doodle each week. If you would like more doodles, perhaps you could set a schedule and check out my doodle tutorial page https://lorikennedyquilts.com/category/doodling-2/

Those flowers are soooo cute! How large are your largest flowers? It is so attractive on a quilt when the flowers are poofy and large too… like 8-10 inches in diameter. Does that large stitching present any particular problems?

I was going to post some pictures here, but I don’t see any way to do that?
I made a ByAnnie’s Large “ The Write Stuff” to keep my doodling supplies in.
On the front of the Notebook cover, there is a zippered pocket where I keep a zippered pouch made out of vinyl and mesh. I keep my pencils and big eraser and ruler in that pouch.

It’s best to post photos on the Facebook page! We’d love to see your supplies!

I made a similar roll for my knitting needles/crochet hooks. I have just 3D printed a pen holder for some new coloured calligraphy flet tipped pens.

I have a holder like that for my paint brushes!

I’d love to hear more about your 3D printer!?
