A most wonderful series. My favorite quote (although she had many of the best, I think) was from the Dowager – “What is a weekend?” Thanks for the opportunity to win fabric inspired by Downton Abbey.

“We like strong women here,” Branson
marysveggiegarden
Violet: “I’m a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.”
Marie Nelson
Now that I am retired and able to quilt as often as I wish (every day, of course) , I really resonate with the Dowager when she said, “What is a weekend?”
Suzie
The last quip from Granny in the final episode as she responds to Lady Crawley’s remarks about looking forward and not backward – “If we only had the chance.”
Karen A
“I’m a woman Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.” Lady Grantham
Kathy Stolaruk
The Countess’s quips are always great. I always enjoy her exchanges with Isobel Crawley. Here’s one of those from season 1:
Violet: “You are quite wonderful the way you see room for improvement wherever you look. I never knew such reforming zeal.” Isobel: “I take that as a compliment.” Violet: “I must’ve said it wrong.”

What a great show, and so nice that it ended with everyone happy! One of the best quotes, from The Dowager, Granny:
“What is a weekend?”
Hope the whole series replays soon!
Sandy Augsburger
It’s good to be in love whatever your age.
Deborah Herold
I have 2 favorites!
Mrs. Hughes said “Stop flanneling & get on.” and
Robert, Earl of Grantham said “I must skedaddle.”
Downton Abbey will be missed. Thanks for the chance to win fabric.

Lady Grantham: “I’m a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.”
Margaret
I ‘ve enjoyed Mrs. Pat more throughout the series! My fav quote: “What with these toasters and mixers and such, we’d be out of a job”. We all know THAT hasn’t happened! Thank you for this Andover Fabric giveaway of those gorgeous fabrics. It ‘s sure fun to read & recall these Downton quotes. Great idea! … A ?? Fan!!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE DOWNTON ABBEY. (And I love your blog) I work as a docent at a little installation museum in Anaheim, California call the Muzeo. In February 2017 we are having the costumes of Downton Abbey! I am so thrilled (the only west coast presentation)
I started at the Muzeo with their Quilt exhibition and have been with them since… thus the tie in. I would so love to have this fabric – you do not even know!
My favorite quote is from Violet of course here are some of the best:
“Last night! He looked so well. Of course it would happen to a foreigner. No Englishman would dream of dying in someone else’s house.”
“Sometimes I feel as if I were living in an H.G. Wells novel.”
“I’m a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.”
“If she won’t say yes when he might be poor, he won’t want her when he will be rich.”
“It always happens when you give these little people power, it goes to their heads like strong drink.”
Oh I want to win!
Thank you for the opportunity.

“I can’t cook! I can’t lift. But it’s not difficult. I’ll talk you through it, don’t worry. ” Mrs. Hughes giving subtle lessons to her beloved Mr. Carson, I love her. I will miss this wonderful program. Thanks for the chance to win this fabric.
Susan Carlson
One of my favorite quotes was from Dowager Countess Violet “An aristocrat without money is as useful as a glass hammer. There were so many from her.
Jackie Zimmerer
“All of life is a series of problems which we must try and solve…” Violet
Kathie L
I don’t have specific quote, but I love the Mrs. Patmore’s exasperation with Daisy’s lack of appreciation of a good man.
Marie Eddins
Violet: “Why must every day involve a fight with an American?!” after having sat in a swivel chair in Matthew’s office which almost tipped her. The swivel chair was invented by Thomas Jefferson.
Loved the series and will miss it greatly. Thanks for the chance at the lovely fabric!
Cathy
I don’t get the series here, know I’ve missed a good one. Thank you for the chance to catch up on a bit.
Carolyn Harris
“Of course I’ll marry you, you old booby. I thought you’d never ask!” [Mrs. Hughes to Mr. Bates]
Very exciting about the Downton fabrics.
Carolyn Kramer
The quote of Mr. Carson is a favorite. “The business of life is the acquisition of memories.”
Joan
Violet to Isobel – “Does it ever get cold on the moral high ground”?
Peggy
Rosamund: What do you think makes the English the way we are?
Violet: Opinions differ. Some say our history, but I blame the weather.
So funny!
Donna Alexander
“I never answer a question more incriminating than whether or not I need a rug.”
And “When reason fails, try force.” Both from the Dowager – the best zinger provider ever! These were from the last show but there were so many – hard to choose. I would love to win the beautiful fabric you have – as a garment sewer, the fashion of Downton Abbey was so fabulous and to get just a glimpse of the costume designers and makers process was not enough. They could have done a whole show on that. Thanks for the chance to win!
Sara Rose-Pegan
One of my favorites is when Mrs Patmore said to Daisy
“Daisy, what’s happened to you? I said you could go for a drink of water, not a trip up the Nile.” I just love how blunt she is! Mrs. Patmore definitely has to be one of my favorites, you just never know what she might say…
Joann N.
I love what the Dowager Countess said about telephones:
“Is this an instrument of communication or torture?”
Still true today with all the telemarketers calling you—
Diana
“The business of life is the acquisition of memories. In the end that’s all there is.”
Mr. Carson.
tammy k.
One of my fave’s:
Robert: “There is nothing more ill-bred than trying to steal the affections of one’s dog.”
Rosemarie
Isobel: “I take that as a compliment.”
Violet: “I must have said it wrong.”
Love the dowager…and the fabric!
Pat
maybe it was the 2nd season – Matthew is talking about his positon as a lawyer working during the week and having his weekend’s off and Violet states “what is a weekend?” Pricesless.
In fact, there are pillows and mugs with this quote.
Lori
“Every mountain is “unclimbable” until someone climbs it. So every ship is “unsinkable” until it sinks.”
I also love the Joe Nichols song “Impossible”, that basically says the same thing.
LOVE your free motion tutorials. I have used many of them in my quilting. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

thanks for the giveaway
Judy
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ the costumes!!!!!
“I have to take one thing for granted, that I will love you until the last breath leaves
my body”
Paula K.
The best quote has to be when when Isabel and Violet meet and Isabel asks what do I call you and Dame Maggie Smith answers, “How about Countess and Mrs Crawley.” Or words to that effect. The tone of their relationship was set!
Paula K.

Dowager Countess, to Isobel: Does it ever get cold on the moral high ground?

I love Violet to Isobel. “Does it ever get cold on at moral high ground?”

Daisy: But if it’s electric, aren’t you worried it’s going to run away with itself and sew your fingers to the table?
Baxter: I certainly hope not.
This makes me laugh because sometimes I secretly think that of my machine! 🙂
Thanks Lori!
Glenda Britten
Lady Violet: All this endless thinking. It’s very overrated.
Great show and great characters.
Loriann Fish
“Vulgarity is no substitute for wit.”
Pamela
Isobel: “How you hate to be wrong.” Violet: “I wouldn’t know. I’m not familiar with the sensation.”
Kathy Woods

Wonderful giveaway!
Pam
As a grandmother I can relate to this one: “It’s the job of grandmothers to interfere.”
Thanks for the awesome giveaway Lori!
Mary D'Amico
I have to chuckle at Lady Mary’s comment: “I hope you know that really smart people sleep in separate bedrooms.” We’ve been doing that for many years after realizing that restlessness and snoring were preventing sleep, and we’re much happier and getting more sleep ever since. We must be pretty smart!
