We don’t do stockings any more as the kids are all grown and with 5 adult children plus their significant others and 8 grandchildren, it gets a little crazy for gifts. This year I knit everyone at least one hat, am just finishing up the last one that gets shipped out, then I can start to work on the ones that will be local. And I’ve only purchased 3 balls of yarn, the rest was all stash yarn, feels good to get some space in the yarn cupboard!

I am getting the book Goodnight I-Pad for the geeks in my family. It is a take-off on Goodnight Moon. You would love it !! Also, I bought myself a super slider and I LOVE IT !! I’m not sure how I quilted without it-so much smoother.

I just mailed my Shoebox “secret quilter” Exchange this week. (I posted about it here: http://adaisygarden.com/2013/12/07/shoebox-exchange/). It was a lot of fun choosing fabrics for her and then other little goodies I thought she might like that had to do with either sewing or quilting. This year for my birthday, my son gave me a gift card to a local bookstore and I bought, “Quilting With Precuts”. I really like it and am looking forward to using the ideas included.

I made my quilting friends owl pincushions. The family always get socks in there stocking. Last year I thought that was kind of boring and skipped socks. they all got upset. I guess the look forward to them! Grandpa always gets McDonalds gift certificate so he can go have coffee with the boys. Grandma is getting a copy of my favorite devotional.my sweetie always gets m and m’s. And I am hoping for a stiletto in my stocking to help push those scraps across the feed dogs and under the feet.

Graph paper and Crayola Twistables colored pencils (the big set) for sketching ideas; small Cloverclips- kind of pricey, but I found the large set at Hobby Lobby and used a 40% off coupon, and boy, are they useful!
Barb
Blue line eraser is a great gift. It gets ride if those blue lines even if they have been ironed in!

All my friends wear out their seam rippers, so that’s my gift this year. Why we’re all not perfect, I don’t know, but there it is. We wear out our seam rippers. Thanks for fun giveaway.

In stockings it’s always a treat to receive something that is useful. Even for adults, I like to put a toothbrush. Who doesn’t need an extra for a guest visiting, a grandchild who comes and forgets to bring his/her own toothbrush or just one to stick in your toiletry bag for travel times. This is one of my daughter’s favorite stocking stuffers.
paulathequilter
I usually tuck several lottery tickets into the stockings.
Ellen
I am putting sewing thumb drives for those who machine embroider, new seam rippers, and some fat quarters. Also the devotional God Calling.

Melanie d
I would say, a new Tourquoise Olfa Rotary cutter!!
Judy
Having adult children, gift cards work really well. For the grandchildren I try to make a fun item. This year’s won’t fit into a stocking, though. I’ve made each one an animal pillow out of fleece. . . two lions, one monkey, one puppy, one teddy bear. The pillows are heads only, nice and large and fluffy. Another year I used their handprints and a shoeprint to make Rudolph on a Christmas placemat. Such fun!
Debbie-do
Between Heaven & TX sounds like a great read! I’m in a small south Texas town… it’ll be fun to see the similarities (and differences).
As well as the standard Christmas ornaments, bag tags and checkbook covers, this year I’m making bowl koozies for the microwave!
Noreen K
I made those a couple years ago. Fun gift
Kerri Ribinson
I really enjoy your bog, especially you FMQ tutorials! Your silent Sunday pictures are wonderful also

Stocking Stuffer? A reservoir watercolor brush pen — with a fountain-pen type water reservoir and foam pointed tip… and ink pens for sketching on the run. Along with a small water color paper notepad. Good for doodling, too.

I have never owned a Christmas stocking in my life but if I had one I would love to have the last three years of the Fons and Porter series (buy 2 get 1 free) or some sewing needles, size 9/12 for paper-piecing and for everyone to have a blessed Christmas and be healthy!! Bless you for this site, Lori, because it offers so much for so many quilters!!
Noreen K
I have been purchasing various Clover notions throughout the year for stuffing stockings and Secret Santa gifts.

Donna Phelps
I have a few recommendations of books for Christmas would be “Practical Guide to Patchwork” by Elizabeth Hartman, “We Love Color” featuring the Robert Kaufman group and Kona Cotton Solids, and any of the “Free Motion Quilting” books by Angela Walters. These are all good reference books for any quilter.I would love to win either of your giveaway books (Fern is one of my fav authors).
Diannia
I have 2 granddaughters that are sisters and 2 years apart (ages 6 and 8). I’m giving them the children’s version of the book “Jesus Calling” to share.
bonniesrecipes
that is a great gift! I didn’t know they made a child version. That is my favorite devotional.
Kathy
I have two daughters and this year I am putting a book called “Let me sing you gentle songs’ in their stocking. It is about a lovely relationship between two women, set in Sweden. Lovely book.
Kathy
Susan Stanton
I’ve had my eye on a Hera Marker. It is useful for making lines in fabric that doesn’t leave a lasting mark (for domestic machine quilting). Also, I’ve seen it used to turn out curved applique for a smooth seam line. I think that would make a nice stocking stuffer!
Pam C
Nothing exciting for the stockings in my family. My DH loves lottery tickets, so I will buy him some of those.
Marianne
I’m making mug rugs for as many stockings as I can find.
I love this blog! It combines tips, tactics, and teaching for free motion quilting that are clearly stated and illustrated. It’s also is full of humor, fun, information, new places, new tools, and books, all of which I’m happy to learn about.
A huge thank you!
