THE ACCIDENTAL BLOG
It’s funny because I never planned to start a blog…I was taking an online Photoshop class from Kim Klassen and the next class in her series was about blogging. I only took the class because I wanted to learn “mouseovers” and GIFs.
As I worked through the course, I thought a blog would be a good way to share my new hobby (photography) and my old hobby (quilting) with my friends and family.
QUILTS ARE POPULAR ON THE WEB
For months, I had 30 followers-all friends and family. Everything changed when I wrote the post “Four Steps to Perfectly Quilted Spirals”.
Suddenly, my “views” quadrupled and a few more followers signed up.
I tried it again with another quilt tutorial…
Again my “views” quadrupled and a few more followers.
The Tuesday Tutorials were born! (See the full library of free motion quilt step-by-step motifs)
THANK YOU
I am really grateful to all of you who were there in the early days, and I am excited about everyone who has joined us since.
We have SO much more quilting, free motion quilting, time management for quilters, organization for quilters, projects, photography, jaunts, Seamstresses in Fine Art, Silent Sundays (photography), paper-piecing, doodling, works in progress….
WELCOME! And help spread the word…please SHARE with ALL your QUILTY FRIENDS!
The best thing about having 5000 of us?
We ALL learn so much from the comments and on Open Line Friday-where everyone asks and EVERYONE answers!
If you’re new to The Inbox Jaunt or if you’re an OLD FRIEND…
TWO THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR ME
- SHARE with all your friends–quilters and quilt-lovers
- PARTICIPATE-we LOVE to hear everyone’s comments and questions..
WELCOME! and THANK YOU!
Lori
We have a busy week ahead:

Congrats to you on the 5000. May it grow..I am sure it will because your writings are so easy to understand. I agree with Carolyn…your tutorials remove the intimidation factor ! Also you are faithful to be there all days of the week and inform us when you are “busy”..We know what to expect from your blog and you are trustworthy. Your talent is exemplary and we all sooo appreciate your sharing it with us. Looking forward to the book and to a second one too..I also want a tote bag that has an Inbox Jaunt logo etc. on it. I already tell everyone about you since I joined up almost a year ago. A tote would elicit questions from others too. I am glad to be a fan and hopefully growing into an advanced beginner and not a neophyte any more. Thank you, dear Lady……. Marta in south Georgia …. just home from a few weeks with grandchildren who live in Smoky Mountains…Lots of inspiration there ! My 6 year old grandson paid me the ultimate compliment. “My grammy sews… She will sew anything I give her !.” …FYI, a small quilt to match set of pj’s I sewed and too many injured stuffed animals to count ! Also mended a ripped hammock and a vintage quilt.

I am so happy and proud of you! And I can say I knew you when…since you are my sister… Not only do you have wonderful tutorials but you are so generous with your time and talent! (A grammar teacher may have an issue with all of the exclamation marks but I believe all of your followers would agree that they are needed in this case.) You also may need to add the medical community to your list of followers – nothing can beat the posting that included your finger x-rays—talk about “taking one for the team”!
All my Love,
Pat

Thanks to my sisters…who ALWAYS encouraged my sewing and blogging!

I remember I was so delighted when I found your blog – it has helped train my brain to think in continuous lines! Thank you!

Congratulations Lori!
I’m a newby who recently found you. I set up a special folder to put all your free motion quilting into to try in the FUTURE. Well, reading all the email above has told me not to save but to do, so I could finish my 15 or so tops that need sandwiching and quilting. I’m not a doodler but a filler in, all the a’s e’s o’s B’s, etc. I don’t have artistic abilities and can’t draw a strait line, but it’s time I tried! All of your followers and especially you have given me the inspiration to try try try. I’ve printed out your 7 Steps to FMQing and I plan on soon to set my workspace up so that I will be ready to do the work. Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your skill with everyone, it takes a special person to do that.
Marie

Thanks, Marie for your note. Best advice I can give you—Don’t wait–jump right in. The sooner you do, the sooner you’ll master free motion quilting!

Thank you so much for all the things you share. I’m a new convert to paper piecing and I so look forward to each new pattern.

Have to add another note after reading the other comments. I would love a book that I can have open at my sewing machine while I practice or work in a quilt. So happy you are working on it. Also love the idea that a few others made for a Craftsy class. Maybe some of us who get their emails could suggest they contact you.

Lori
Congratulations! I remember when there were only a few of us. You were so excited every time a new person looked at your site. Now there are 5000 followers and you still get excited with each new member. I think your continued enthusiasm shows how much you love sharing your wonderful talent! I know how much time you spend planning. Thank you for all you have taught me.

5000 – what a landmark! I’m not surprised that your blog has grown and that many others recommend you; it is a wonderful read and the tuts are fabulous. You didn’t mention when you started your blog; I’d be interested.
Lori Kennedy
I started very slowly in August, 2012. I only blogged occasionally at the time. Mostly photos.
Tavette
How fortunate for us you took that photography class and learned about blogging. All of us are benefitting from it. Your designs are so creative and the step by step tutorials make us believe that we, too, can create something awesome.
It would be fun if everyone would write their location when they write a comment so we can see people around the world who are following your blog.

Tavette, Thank you so much. It is music to my ears to hear you have gained confidence in FMQ by reading The Inbox Jaunt. Also, I LOVE the idea of asking for addresses. I will encourage people to do just that. It is so cool that there are quilters everywhere!

You have way more than 5,000 fans following you, Lori. I don’t subscribe by email, but I put you on the blog roll on the sidebar of my own blog, which is how I “follow.” I’m eagerly awaiting each new tutorial but I don’t think I show up in your “following” stats. My home page is set to my own blog and I click down through the list on my sidebar to see what my favorite quilty bloggers are up to — and that definitely includes you!
Lori Kennedy
Thank you, Rebecca! I never consider this.

Canada checking in to say hi. 😉
Lori Kennedy
Yes! Yes! Hi to ALL our Canadian followers! We have a great many loyal friends from Canada.—Changing the post right now!
Carolyn
Congrats on the 5K mark! My LQS has a Sweet 16 club for owners and potential owners of that sit down quilting machine. A member had challenged us with your back to school pencil motif. I look forward to every tutorial since that day and have mined the mother lode you have posted. This Sunday at club meeting I proposed we explore creating a “vase quilt”. We are using Grid Pop Tutorial for inspiration. Every member was given your website address. I assume some of the new followers are from our club meeting yesterday. You have removed the intimidation factor for me. Thank you and Keep Posting, please.
Phyllis
Congratulations Lori!! I found your website through Tartan on the quilting board and your blog was a truly great find. Love all your tutorials and have used many on my daughter’s king size quilt that she’ll receive at Christmas.

congratulations Lori ! I’ve been following you for a while and I love your posts and your quilting – I read about a book which would be fab but you know what else would be amazing – doing a craftsy class !! I’d love to be able to take a class with you and that would be the only way I could access as I live down under 🙂
Lori Kennedy
A Craftsy class would be FUN to do!
Claire
I shared you and the blog with my quilting guild (we are working on our notebooks from your series last winter). Many of them have visited your blog and some have signed up! Most of them love your FMQ tutorials and inspirations (very few of us are able to actually produce quilts as lovely as yours!).
Lori Kennedy
Hi Claire,
I haven’t forgotten the Notebook series. We will be re-visiting it soon. How is the group doing on the notebooks. Do you have any ideas/additions or topics you think we should add?

As I have mentioned a couple times before, you need to put all your tutorials in a book. I would be the first one in line to buy.

Congratulations Lori! 5,000 WOW! You have so many followers because you have a GREAT blog! I learn so much from you!
Ceil
Congratulations! There are many fine blogs out there but yours is the only one that has given me the confidence and skills to be able to doodle and try FMQ. Before I thought that my lack of drawing talent meant that I could never do any FMQ. Now I am a frequent doodler and my self confidence and skills have grown.
Thank you so much!
