Candy Stripe Quilts, Free Motion Quilting

Candy Stripe Quilts, Free Motion QuiltingGood Morning, Quilters!  I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s free motion quilting tutorial, The Candy Stripe.  I thought I’d share these two small, vase quilts that I am binding.  You may recognize The Holly Leaf from our tutorial two weeks ago, and we will be working on The Pine Bough next week.

Candy Stripe Quilts, Free Motion QuiltingRight now the only visions I have dancing in my head are turkeys…(and the long lines at the grocery store this morning!)

Hope you have time to dance and sing and quilt today!

I love the way you mixed in the other types of “greens” with the holly! Beautiful!

Lori: You are wonderful! Thank you for sharing your talent. My Christmas present is the discovery of your blog. I want to improve my quilting on my Bernina 440QE and you are giving me the lessons and inspiration that I need. It will take me some time to go through all your posts; you are so generous! I’ve been to Stillwater, have a son in Minneapolis and I live just south of Madison. So I’m a neighbor. Makes it even neater that you are from my neck of the woods so to speak. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

I am so glad you have found us and are enjoying the tutorials. We are neighbors–we lived in Whitefish Bay for ten years before we moved to Stillwater! By the way, what are your favorite Madison area quilt shops. We drive through that way regularly.

Quilters in the Madison area are very fortunate because we have so many quilt shops within an easy drive. My main shop is Stitchers Crossing on Mineral Point Rd in Madison. I’ve attended many classes there and monthly meet with Judy Hasheider in guild like classes on piecing and on wool. I’m not far from Patches and Petals in Belleville and Saving Thyme in Stoughton and of course there is JJ Stitches in Sun Prairie and Mill House in Waunakee. And hey i love the pine boughs!

  • I’m new to FMQ and love your tutorials and ideas. Thank you. Question: how big are these mini quilts and just what do you do with them?

    • A

Hi Jan, Most of my mini-quilts are between 15 and 22 inches square. I use them around the house-under bowls of fruit, under vases–I call them “vase quilts”. Just little quilts to add color to the house and prevent scratches on the wood tables.

Are you any relation to Evelyn Sloppy–she wrote a quilt book that I love!

  • I love that candy cane FMQ pattern you’ve designed! So festive!
