 Quilting and Tradition

For all the weddings in our family, my Mother, two sisters–Patricia and Teri, and I have made a quilt for the new couple.  We have stitched nine wedding quilts so far and have one more in progress (for my daughter, Claire who is getting married in May).  We made this quilt in 2012 for my daughter, Nora and her husband, Travis.

Red and White Wedding QuiltNora chose this traditional color scheme after seeing the photos of the Red and White Quilt  Show hosted by The American Folk Art Museum.  Read more about the owner of the 651 quilts that were displayed HERE.  Unfortunately, I was unaware of this spectacular quilt show until after it was over…but there’s good news for all of us…

Red and White Wedding QuiltA Virtual Quilt Show

SewCalGal is hosting a Virtual Red and White Quilt Show this week HERE--with more Red and White events all year– no tickets required!  Just pop on over–and add your red and white quilt, too!

Red and White Wedding Quilt

Nora and Travis’s Wedding Quilt

This king sized quilt was hand appliquéd using Kona cotton fabric and Aurifil 50 wt cotton thread.  I machined quilted it in on my Bernina 820 –a domestic sewing machine –(yes, it can be done!)  with Aurifil 28 wt cotton thread.

(Make sure you try one of our many free–free motion quilt pattern tutorials HERE)

Most of the block patterns were downloaded directly from the Poakalani & Co. website HERE. The heart and house pattern was designed by Elly Sienkiewicz.

Red and White Wedding QuiltThis quilt was a joy to make–Sewing with my Mom and Sisters is… well…always a stitch!

May the tradition continue,

Lori
