Good Morning, Quilters!
I received several “cookie cutter” (2-1/2 inch square) samples at Spring Market this year.
On my way home from Market, I ran into fellow Minnesota quilter, Amanda Jean Nyberg, at the airport.
She suggested using the squares to make her thread catcher…
Find the pattern at Amanda’s website, CrazyMomQuilts.
Be sure to check out her wonderful new book, No Scrap Left Behind, too!–Amanda offers a wide variety of projects for using up scraps-from pillows to quilts.
I quickly stitched the squares together (a little too quickly–don’t look too close!)
And added Daisy Chain and Silly Spirals...
A perfect little project to use up your scraps AND
give you an opportunity to free motion quilt!
And it’s not a UFO!!!
Thank you, Amanda Jean!
Happy Quilting!
Lori

This looks like an adorable project, but I could not find it on Amanda’s blog. Help please.

This is a direct link to download the .pdf.: http://www.sewmamasew.com/media/blog/SMSPincushionOrganizer.pdf.
To find it on the blog itself, here is the link: http://www.sewmamasew.com/2009/03/elizabeths-fabric-focus-3/

Just another thought to the pattern mentioned above: You could add a magnetic strip for bobbins, etc.. You could also make the pin cusion separate from the weighted pad; then fill the pin cushion with emery sand powder and Velcro it to the weighted pad filled with rice

Check this out for an adaptation of this thread catcher.http://www.sewmamasew.com/media/blog/SMSPincushionOrganizer.pdf It’s a weighted pin cushion with a tool organizer and a button on basket thread catcher

I like this idea….cute and useful for so much more than thread scraps too AND I get to practice my FMQ! Win, win

Fun, not, fun! I used to practice my beginning FMQ on scrap baskets! Guess I’ll have to do some more! I love these!

I may try the thread catcher with some laminated fabric for the liner. They would make great boutique items for our guild quilt show and fmq practice to boot!

Great idea!!

I really can never have “too many” thread catchers! I prefer my own pattern which adds an extender and a weighted pin cushion, and it hangs off the table or anywhere else I want it. These little squares are perfect for it!

So cute , think l will practise some of the different flower motifs that you have shown us this years. Thanks again for all you do to inspire us! Will also check out Amanda’s website. Thank you!

That is DARLING! The fabrics are so fresh and pretty and the quilting really sets it off. Well done!

Good morning, Lori,
I had the privilege of meeting Amanda Nyberg last month when she spoke at the Quilt and Textile Museum in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. She is delightful and her book is great. Must make a thread catcher with some FMQ in honor of my 2 favorite Minnesota quilters. Hope to meet you someday, too!
